Good morning, readers!
I have the perfect book today to kick off our September reviews.
Mind you, I've never had a pumpkin spice latte and after reading how they're full of artificial flavors, I'm not sure I want to.... until I read Lucy's version. You'll see.
A bit about the book:
Gilmore Girls fans! Pour
yourselves a hot cup of tea and get ready to fall in love with this cozy YA
romance that will have you dreaming of autumn all year long.
Fall is a big deal in
Briar Glen, a quaint and charming village in New England. That’s when tourists
from all over the country descend upon this picturesque town to see the
babbling brooks and colorful leaves while sipping hot chocolate or pumpkin
spice lattes.
But sixteen-year-old Lucy
Kane hates the uber-popular PSL. She finds it overrated -- especially when you
consider the fact that there isn’t even pumpkin in it! -- which is bad because
she works at Cup o’ Jo, the local coffee shop her mom owns. Business at Cup o'
Jo hasn't been great in the off-season, but that's okay because it always picks
up during the fall ...
Until Java Junction, a
multinational coffee chain, opens across the street and makes things harder for
the small shop. And to make matters worse, it turns out Jack Harper, the new
kid in school and Lucy's secret crush, is the son of the owner. Suddenly, fall doesn’t
seem like it'll be all it's cracked up to be. Will Lucy find a way to save her
mom's coffee shop?
I have to admit, this book took me a bit. I don't read YA, but when I saw this book for $5 at the B & N cafe last week, the title just sounded perfect for this week, so I just purchased it - along with my Caramel Mocha Latte. That's fall, right?
I figured out the YA part as I started reading the book but kept going. At first I thought Lucy was a brat. One incident early in the book was like WOW! Her mother doesn't even take her to the back room and give her a talking to?! But I kept reading. The dynamic between mother/ daughter is built on them being the only two they had to depend on Lucy's entire life. Her mom CHOSE to be a single mom, though I think there's a hint in there of who Lucy's dad could be.
Some time ago I found a crockpot recipe for Pumpkin Spice Latte and wanted to give it a try. Of course, I can't find that recipe now. LOL But I did find one I think is workable if you can figure out the measurements.
You'll need to scroll about 3/4 of the way down the page. There is a video but the video doesn't give measurements.
THE MAGICAL SLOWCOOKER Here's the
VIDEO
Since I spend one day a week, pretty much all day, in my favorite coffee shop, I loved the overall story and setting. Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice definitely hits all the fall vibes and I recommend sharing with the young adult in you or in your family.
I'm giving Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice...
All my best!
