THE WRITER'S NEST - Elizabeth Bromke

 Good morning, everyone!

Are you ready to peek inside of another writing space? Elizabeth Bromke gave great advice yesterday. Let's see what she has to share today.

BIO:

Elizabeth Bromke writes small-town women's fiction and sweet romance. In her stories, she weaves multi-generational family dynamics with the triumphs and trials of modern relationships.

Elizabeth and her husband and son live in the mountains of Arizona. There, they spend time together reading, taking walks with their sweet pup, Winnie, and working on puzzles.

Thanks for taking us on a tour today, Elizabeth!

Describe your writing nest? It changes with the season! In the winter, I write in the cozy crook of my bed, next the window. When the weather is good, I like to write on my back deck. There, the sun sets and casts an orange glow through the pine trees. It’s breathtaking, truly.

What is it about this space that inspires you?
In my bed, even if it’s freezing out, I’ll crack my window so I have a cool breeze curling in and over my blanket-buried body! On the deck, the feel of the fresh air, the smell of wood smoke (mountain life!), and the sounds of birds all work together to shape my story telling.

Has finding your space been an evolving journey? How so? Yes, definitely. It still is, too. I like to roam around my house. Walking, even short little jaunts, keeps my ideas flowing. While routine is critical, for me, movement and change is critical, too. That’s why I mix it up regularly.

Anything you would change? One day, I’d love to have a sunroom! Seems like the ideal mix of elements.

What advice would you give to someone looking to build their own nest? I like a bit of a dynamic set-up, where I can get up and move about. When I first started writing, I saw that so many writers committed to their desks or offices. I tried that, too, but without fail I never could stay in one place long. I finally gave myself permission to write wherever I wanted. The words flow better there.

Great spaces, Elizabeth. Very inspiring!

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT & REVIEW - Elizabeth Bromke

 Good morning, friends!

Today, I'm shining the spotlight on USA Today Bestselling author, Elizabeth Bromke.

We'll find out more about Elizabeth on Friday when we visit her Writer's Nest. For now, let's learn a bit about her.

According to her press release...

If you enjoy women's fiction with a touch of romance and an undercurrent of mystery, you will fall in love with Harbor Hills, the newest saga by USA TODAY bestselling author Elizabeth Bromke. Romance, secrets and mystery, family ties and female friendships abound in this heartwarming saga about four women who find friendship right next door.

The House on Apple HIll Lane is the first in a 4-book series.

Blurb:

Four small-town neighbors, one fixer-upper, and a decades-old secret that could change everything...

Quinn Whittle made a big mistake.

She bought an old house in a new town... sight unseen. But it's not only the house that has a history. So does Quinn, and her new neighbors are starting to clue in...

Annette Best's realty business is struggling. Then a new face comes to town, and she sees an opportunity to save her company (and along with it, her marriage)... as long as the homebuyer doesn't poke around under the floorboards.

Judith Banks is freshly single but too fed up to date. Or so she thinks. Then her new neighbor hires a local handyman, and she's taken... but only if he doesn't ask about Judith's past.

Beverly Castle had it all. Now she's lost everything, and all that's keeping her going is her job with the Harbor Herald... until an unlikely friendship hatches on her very own street.

REVIEW:
THE HOUSE ON APPLE HILL LANE opens up the doors to the internal drama of each character. While each character's struggle is different, there is a common thread. Survival. Elizabeth Bromke has given us a well-written look inside a simple cul de sac in a quaint Maine community where everyone needs something and count on their neighbors for support... something I think we lack these days. We need that community spirit and she has brought us the helping hand we all need some times.

I'm giving THE HOUSE ON APPLE HILL LANE:

Be sure to pick up the other titles in this series to see what's next in store for these women. Jude's story, The House with the Blue Front Door, is Book 2.

WEDNESDAY REVIEW - The Innkeeper's House

THE INKEEPER'S HOUSE by Elizabeth Bromke tells the story of Greta Houston, trying to rebuild some sort of life since her recent break-up, one that proved opposites may attract but don't always mesh well in reality. At the insistence of her brother, Greta moves back to their small home town, landing a job as an English teacher until she can get a foundation under her feet. She doesn't count on that being in the form of an inn or the house that goes with the dated business.

Luke Hart is the football couch who believes if there is someone for him out there (and he is skeptical), he just hasn't found her yet.... until he and Greta meet in passing at the local cafe. Sparks fly yet at the time, neither realize the impact those sparks will have on their lives.  With the death of Luke's grandmother he takes on the brunt of the responisbility of not losing the inn nor the home from his childhood. Everyone in their circle of friends has the perfect solution to both of their problems. Luke wants to keep the house but needs an overnight caretaker on sight and Greta is in need of a place to hang her hat and grade papers. The solution is perfect.

While I did enjoy the story, I felt as if there were more words than necessary to tell the story. Either there needed a secondary character arc or more of a dark moment for the main characters rather than rehashing the same issues.

That said, Ms Bromke has a good premise and I'm anxious to read more in the Hickory Grove series to watch this author grow.  I'm giving THE INKEEPER'S HOUSE...
