AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - Meg Moseley

 Good morning!

This week, I'm shinning the spotlight on a California girl turned southern belle.

Let's get to  know Meg Moseley:
Although I've lived more than half my life in other states, I'm still a Californian at heart. I love vintage bungalows, twisted oaks on rolling hills, and the rocky beaches of the Central Coast. A few blocks away from my childhood home stood a Lutheran church where I came to faith, first through Sunday School teachers whose kindness drew me to the kindness of God, and then through confirmation classes. The Bible verses that had been drilled into my head came to life in my heart.

After moving away from home as a teenager, I worked at a variety of jobs, from candle-maker in a tourist town to administrative assistant at a Christian college. I married a wonderful man from Michigan, and we lived north of Detroit for seventeen years. That's where we started homeschooling our three children, an endeavor that we finished in Georgia when our youngest graduated from high school in 2009.

My husband and I live near Atlanta, close to the foothills of the Southern Appalachians. His motorcycle often carries us to the mountains of Georgia, Tennessee, or the Carolinas. Sitting on the back of the bike, I can pray, enjoy the beautiful views, and plot new stories. Fiction makes my world go 'round, whether I'm writing it or reading it

Tomorrow, I'll be reviewing Book 6 (of an 11-book series). In the mean time, please click on the links below to find out more about Meg and her books:

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - SOMETHING BLUE - Annie Raines

 Good morning!

Going to be a triple-digit scorcher today and the rest of the week. I'm glad I'm working in the studio for the duration.

Today, we have a very prolific author with some big news I'll be sharing later in this post.

Here's a bit about Annie Raines:

Annie Raines is a USA Today best selling author of small-town contemporary romances full of hope and heart. After years of dreaming about being an author, Annie published her first book in 2015. She's been chasing deadlines and happy-ever-afters for her characters ever since.
When she isn't writing, Annie is usually spending time with her husband and three children, binging Netflix, or reading a book by one of her favorite authors.

A WEDDING TO REMEMBER – Annie Raines

After a fall and bump on the head, Reese Whittaker seems to have forgotten the last six months and falling for the man she’s about to marry in T-minus two days. The last thing she remembers is hating Patrick Jamison because he’s just swiped her dream job for himself. Reese’s only hope is getting her memory back because otherwise, the wedding of her dreams will feel more like a nightmare.

Her most recent book, The Match Breaker Summer, released April 5th.

That news I promised you?  Well, I'll let Annie tell you about it. CLICK HERE for the details!

You can catch up with Annie Raines all across the internet by following any of the links below:

I'll be back tomorrow to share my own writing tip.

She loves nothing more than exploring super cute small towns, is fueled by Dunkin Donuts mocha iced coffee and spends her evenings curled up with a glass of wine and a Hallmark movie. She also loves everything about  honeybees and am obsessed with honey.

Maybe I should link her to Biron the Bee Who Couldn't.

HER PURRFECT PLUS ONE – Robyn Neeley

When Buttermilk Falls bookshop manager Chelsea Lowndes finds a stray kitten left outside her shop’s door, her curiosity turns to shock when around its neck is a note stating that the owner of the purring feline is the purrfect one for her.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - SOMETHING BLUE - Cassidy Carter

AMAZON   KOBO   B & N

Good morning, everyone!

By the time you read this, my dear Tabby cat will be minus several teeth. I feel so bad for her. She isn't even 5 years old! There is lots of napping with momma time. That's her favorite thing to do - curl up in my lap and either watch TV or go to sleep.

Today, we're meeting Cassidy Carter. Here's a little bit about this talented lady:

With strong, relatable heroines and heroes too loveable not to fall for, Cassidy Carter crafts sweet, fun, family-centered romances that will win readers’ hearts. When not writing, Cassidy can be found digging in the garden or lost in a good book. Originally from the South, she now lives in the desert Southwest with her husband, two daughters, and a cattle dog that has never seen a lick of work.

Cassidy's story in the anthology is SOMETHING BORROWED

When bridesmaid Catherine Katz tries on the bride’s ring before her best friend’s wedding, she doesn’t count on Lennox Miller, her former fiancĂ©e, catching her in the act—or not being able to get the ring off. She doesn’t want Len’s help, but now she needs it. During their race together to try and free her before the ceremony begins, Catherine begins to see that her own old love story might potentially have a new ring to it.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - SOMETHING BLUE - Caro Carson

 Good afternoon, everyone!

I do apologize for coming in late today. I've been under a creative deadline that I finally closed on around noon today - all while winding up the head cold and finding out my dear sweet Tabby cat will have most of her teeth removed. I so feel for her.

We are continuing our list of authors from the Something Blue anthology - Caro Carson

Here's a bit of background on Caro:

Despite a no-nonsense background as a West Point graduate and U.S. Army officer, Caro Carson has always treasured the happily-ever-after of a good romance novel. After her military service, she worked in the healthcare industry with a Fortune 100 company, talking science with doctors who were rarely handsome bachelor Texans like the doctors in her books.

Now a USA Today bestselling author and RITA award winner, Caro is delighted to be living her own happily-ever-after with her husband (who actually is a handsome Texan) and their two children. They live in the great state of Florida, a location which has saved the coaster-loving theme park fanatics a fortune on plane tickets.

Blurb from Caro's story - THE CUSTOM-MADE BRIDESMAID

Bethany Shepherd is on the verge of opening her own bridal boutique, as soon as she finishes this final job as a seamstress for an over-the-top wedding with fifteen bridesmaids. At the last minute, Bethany is forced to fill in for a missing bridesmaid on top of the fifteen dress fittings she must complete as a seamstress. Worse, the groomsman she’s paired with is her old college flame, the wealthy and arrogant Jovian Taylor, who suddenly seems more than willing to stay by her side, for better or for worse.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - SOMETHING BLUE - Susan Sands

Releases May 17th
PRE-ORDER NOW FOR .99

 Good morning, everyone!

I am so pleased to kick off this series with author, Susan Sands!

Thanks to Susan's wonderful information on her website, I will be running the authors in order as she has their blurbs listed, with two exceptions.

1 - Sasha Summers introduced me to this series so I'll be dropping her in next week .

2 - Shirley Jump has asked if I could put her near the end as I had a special request for her. She just got married and was wrapped up in pre-wedding planning. What an appropriate time for this anthology to launch!  I've known Shirley since our very early days on AOL where we both led writing workshops. I will be sharing her post on July 12th, then she will be our July Writer's Nest guest on July 15th.

~ ~ ~

Susan has been a tremendous help in launching this Spotlight Author series through July 13th.  I have a BONUS surprise for you at the end of this post. Let's get started!!

BIO:

A self-described late bloomer, Susan Sands began writing her first novel at age forty. She compares her challenging journey to publication as “raising another child—a difficult one.”

Susan has published five southern, contemporary women’s fiction novels set in Alabama. She describes her humorous small-town stories as fun, romantic, and filled with big family love. Susan also writes authentic place-as-a-character southern fiction with a humorous voice in addition to her Alabama series.

Susan has three grown children and lives with her dentist husband in Roswell, GA. She has a degree in elementary education, is a member of the Georgia Romance Writers, the Romance Writers of America, the Atlanta Writer’s Club,  Womens Fiction Writers of America (WFWA), and the Broadleaf Writers Association. She participates in book festivals, book clubs, and writer’s conferences around the South. Susan is the recipient of the 2017 Georgia Author of the Year award for romance.

Each author has crafted a story for this anthology centered around the Wedding theme. Spring is a wonderful time for weddings - full of promise in the season for new beginnings.

Then, And Now – Susan Sands

New Orleans Interior designer Kate Lafitte is thrilled to meet her daughter Casey’s new boyfriend, Drew. But she’s mortified to learn that Drew’s dad, Trevor, is her former college boyfriend, to whom she’s compared every man since. As the kids’ romance becomes more serious, it leaves Kate and Trevor to rehash the past and learn that their chemistry still smolders.

I loved the concept of this story. Imagine believing your have your life in order only to have your daughter re-introduce you to someone  from your past by which you measure other potential suitors! While I admit some things are better left in the past, sometimes they were only put on hold.

NOTE: I will not be doing individual quill ratings for each story. Rather, I will give an over-all review during the wrap-up post on July 13th.

THE WRITER'S NEST - Daisy Knox

 Good morning, everyone!

I look forward to The Writer's Nest posts. These Friday entries give me the opportunity to be inspired by where other authors create the stories we love to read.

Like previous posts from Daisy Knox, we get a look at her unique writing space and learn a bit more about her.

Thank you for having us in your space, Daisy.

Describe your writing nest?

This may sound odd, but my nest is portable, it’s really just my tools. I have a couple of favorite bags that fit my laptop, throw in some notebooks and pens, then I’m all set. I write anywhere and everywhere that I can so that may be on my couch, at my desk at day job, in the passenger seat on road trips, anywhere I go. Much of the time that’s in my backyard in a comfy chair or hammock next to the creek but when I’m lucky, it’ll be at the beach or somewhere fun far from home.

What is it about this space that inspires you?

I have a short attention span so I need quiet and no distractions to concentrate. That’s not easy to achieve with a family and job and other responsibilities, so I decided to go portable. I love to be outside so setting up a little workspace in the yard is a must, too.

Has finding your space been an evolving journey? How so?

It was. I’d make a space somewhere but then there would always be distractions so I need to be able to adapt. And by adapt, I mean move, whenever possible.

Anything you would change?

Not at all. I love having a dedicated office space but at the same time, that’s not always where I’m productive so my go-bag is everything.

Thank you for sharing your space with us!

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - Daisy Knox

  Good morning, everyone!

I'm way behind on posting. Between Bob being home, company his first few days then being 'off my feed' the last few days he was home... I just haven't done much. In fact, yesterday was the first day in months I actually dressed in 'office' clothes and focused on work.

So today...

Today, I'm shining the spotlight on a new Boroughs author - Daisy Knox. She has come out of the chute with a bang, but we'll get to her book in a moment.

Here's a bit about Daisy Knox:

Reading is a lifelong passion and mysteries have always been the holy grail. It began with Trixie Belden and the Hardy Boys, graduating to JD Robb and Greg Iles. From the whimsical antics of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum to the grit and shock of Dennis Lebane’s Kenie & Gennaro series, I love them all, and everything in between.

Daisy’s addicted to music and all her books have soundtracks because everything in her head happens to music. Her first novel, Go For Broke, is coming September 2021 from Boroughs Publishing. She’s also addicted to podcasts and hopes to one day write the scene where Cady is interviewed by Nick and the Captain because True Crime Garage is her favorite.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, son and the world’s derpiest but most lovable dog and is counting the days until the world meets Cady and her friends.

Well, the day is here. Go For Broke released on September 9th with 3.5 stars (Only 11 reviews so far). Daisy shouldn't worry about that number. As more people read/ review Go For Broke, those stars will light up!

(ONLY 11 REVIEWS SO FAR). Daisy shouldn't worry about that number. As more people read/ review Go For Broke, those stars will light up!

GO FOR BROKE is a romantic suspense sure to please the reader. I can't offer a review. For some reason Kindle and I are arguing at the moment. But you can be sure when the kink is worked out, I'll be curling up with this one.

Here's the blurb:

Cady Blackwell is a victim of her own bad judgment: dating the biggest losers, attracting a stalker, and unknowingly accepting a job that's gotta be illegal.

She can’t quit until she finds a way to protect herself from being framed for her bosses' crimes, plus she wants to stay alive and out of prison.

But nothing’s easy when she’s distracted by a charming financier and a f-boy detective. She's in way over her head, and she's fighting for her life.

Her only chance for survival is to put her faith in the instincts she stopped trusting long ago.

It’s time to go for broke, which will either save her or cost her everything.

THE WRITER'S NEST - Parris Afton Bonds

I have been wanting to have Parris Afton Bonds as a guest for a very long time. The only thing that kept holding me back was the fear of rejection... you know... that little demon that targets all of us at one time or another.

Normally, that demon does't pester me but I just couldn't fathom someone of her caliber having time for little ol' me. LOL

I'm here to tell you that Parris Afton Bonds is one of the sweetest people I now count as a friend. She's smart, funny, encouraging and as down to earth as can be. She is letting us into her Writer's Nest. Let's take a peek.

Describe your writing nest?

My writer’s space really is a “nest.”  Four-feet-wide, it creates the same feeling I create for sleeping, my bed mounded on three sides of me with pillows.

What is it about this space that inspires you?

Absolutely nothing.  I remember reading a comment by the famed author, Louis L’Amour.  His office had this panoramic expanse of Colorado’s heavenly landscape.  But he purposefully faced his desk to a wall, so as not to be distracted.  A major portion of my NY Times best seller Deep Purple was written sitting on a bed before a desk (there was no room for a chair) in a two-bedroom trailer, with five sons in the other bedroom.

Has finding your space been an evolving journey? How so?

Not to a great degree.  J.K. Rowling wrote much of the Harry Potter series in a variety of cafes.  I believe our writer’s space is in our minds.

Anything you would change?

Not a blessed thing.  I have been so fortunate.

What advice would you give to someone looking to build their own nest?

You already have all that you need ~ your imagination, curiosity, love of reading and writing.  Go for it!

I recently read The Brigands - Volume 1 of The Texicans. Fabulous book! I'm looking forward to reading book 2. I really want the full series in hard copy for my keeper shelf.

You'll find Parris Afton Bonds via the following links:

Make sure to subscribe to her email list to stay up to date on new releases and give aways!

THE WRITER'S NEST - Linda Broday

Today's guest in The Writer's Zone is the every-talented Linda Broday.

Thank you for joining me today and inviting my readers into your Writing Nest.

1 – Describe your writing nest?

I suppose you’d call it traditional. I have a large desk that my PC sets on with room for my well-used dictionary and snacks. Above my desk is a clock and a small plaque that says Life is a Journey. Enjoy it! To my right is my Texas wall that is very important to me. Directly behind is a good-sized window that provides plenty of light. Lining the top of the walls are some of my book covers. Small shelves hold my research books. Then of course, I have my printer and my Writer of the Year and National Readers’ Choice Awards.

2 – What is it about this space that inspires you?

It’s light and airy. In fact, I rarely have to use my overhead light. Creativity seems to flow in this room and I just feel very happy and comfortable in here. Thoughts and ideas spring to life when I sit down and I can feel a certain energy moving around me that transports me to the 1800s.

3 – Has finding your space been an evolving journey? How so?

No, I knew from the first my nest would be in this room and it just fit. I moved in here in November 2019 and from Day 1 my heart was happy. It simply fits.

4 – Anything you would change?

If I could, I would move my desk facing the window but that’s impossible since a built-in space heater is below. The only other thing I would possible change would be the view out the window. Oh man, I’d love to have some mountains out there! And a tall, rugged cowboy to hand me drinks and fan me all day. But alas, there’s nothing I can do about either of those. Darn it!

5 – What advice would you give to someone looking to build their own nest?

Find a place that suits you. A lot of authors are comfortable writing outside or on the sofa. If that’s you, then go for it. Wherever you decide, have the essentials around you so you won’t have to constantly get up and down. You never want to interrupt your creative zone if you can help it.

Linda is sharing a blurb from one of her books with us today. This is Book 3 in the Outlaw Mail Order Brida series:

Blurb:

When three young children show up on outlaw Tait Trinity's doorstep, he knows he can't help them—a wanted man has no business raising kids. And yet he can't bring himself to turn them away. At a loss, he sends for the mail order bride he'd been writing to, hoping the demure dressmaker will be the answer to his prayers.

Melanie Dunbar is nothing like the bride Tait was expecting. She's rough and tumble...and hiding an ulterior motive. Dangerous men have taken her sister hostage, and if Melanie wants to see her alive, she'll have to betray her new husband. There's only one problem—the more time she spends with Tait, the more she comes to care for him. Yet as the noose begins to tighten, Melanie will have to make a terrible choice: save her sister...or the man she loves.

Thank you again, Linda, for joining us today. Love your space and look forward to binge-reading this series.

COMING SOON - Linda Broday

Today seems like a good day as any to test the new Blogger platform. At least I will have the opportunity to fix anything that doesn't process properly before the June Writer's Nest post on Friday.

Linda Broday is my very special guest on Friday.
I had the opportunity to meet Linda at the Ozark Creative Writers conference last year. She came as Jodi Thomas' traveling companion. Her appearance was so low-key I didn't even realize she was at the conference until Saturday night when I invited her and Jodi to join my table for the banquet.

Linda is such a delightful lady. She doesn't talk much but you can tell she is taking everything in. Having dinner with her was such a joy.

In the mean time, I got a reprieve. Bob worked a week over and will be home tomorrow. The studio is progressing. His delay gave me the opportunity to do some garden work but now I have to really push to finish. Serves me right! LOL

If you'd like to curl up with a good read between now and Friday, I highly recommend this fabulous read from Linda. The Mail Order Bride's Secret is Book 3 in the Outlaw Mail Order Bride series.

I will see you back here on Friday. Please tell your friends to stop by and see where Linda Broday pens her wonderful stories!

Happy Reading!

WEDNESDAY REVIEW - Hot Target Cowboy

HOT TARGET COWBOY is Book 2 in the Dark Horse Cowboys series by June Faver.  If there is one thing June knows, it's cowboys. She is from Texas, after all.

BLURB:
His loyalty is to his family.
But his heart belongs to her.
Eldest son Colt Garrett is the biggest, strongest and steadiest of the Garrett brothers. Colt accepts his responsibilities, knowing his future is tied to the land. Colt has stayed centered-but when he falls in love, he falls hard. He is mesmerized by Misty Dalton, the younger sister of one of his brother's friends.
Misty Dalton has held together a family plagued with problems since her mother passed away. But when the threats to her family turn deadly, Misty turns to Colt. If anybody wants to hurt Misty, they're going to have to go through the toughest of the Garrett boys first.

June Faver is one of my 'favorite' authors. Not only has she been a good friend and mentor for over thirteen years, but the woman can write! Proven through her multi-book contract with Sourcebooks in the Casablanca line as well as through the many workshops she has held at SavvyAuthors.  She is always up on trends in the industry and shares her finds with others so we are right up there with her.

But you're here about the book, HOT TARGET COWBOY.

I have to be honest, when she first told me the title, I was skeptical. I'm still not sure the title fits but once you get beyond that and into the story, you are once again carried away to Texas and the Garret compound. A ranch grown from grief and from love, forming a tight bond between the brothers as well as Big Jim, the father they love and respect. The Garrets are all about family... their own and others who might need a little help.

With that in mind, I was not surprised to see Colt, the oldest of the three Garrets, jump in to rescue Misty Dalton. He began by connecting with her younger brother, Mark. As soon as he made friends with the boy, I knew here was a hero I would want in my corner. He knew from the get-go Misty and Mark were part of a package... one he wanted to cherish.

Through the twists and turns of the usual murders and suspense found in June's books, I found myself in love with Colt, just like I fell for Tyler in book one.

Returning characters from Book 1 (Do Or Die Cowboy) include Leah. Leah married Tyler in Book 1 and is still showing her spitfire gumption when she stands up for Misty against Big Jim. You'll find not many stand up to that man without a bit of backfire.

While you don't have to read the books in order, I recommend picking them both up. While you're at it, follow June Faver on the social media sights listed below so you will know when Book 3 - Full Throttle Cowboy - releases.

I'm giving this book 5 quills not because June is a dear friend but because I LOVED the book... and I think you will too.
