WEDNESDAY REVIEW - Second Time Around

Hi friends!

Y'all know second chance love stories are my favorite and HER SUMMER REFUGE checked all the boxes for me. Before I share my full review, let's check out the blurb:

She needs his help to start over…

But can she earn his trust?

Jobless and alone, mom-to-be Jessa Brooks returns to the resort she once called home—only to find the man she left a decade before. New owner Will Madden offers his pregnant ex a cabin, a job…and a silent vow to keep his distance. But working together makes it impossible to stay away. As old feelings resurface, could they find the refuge they both need in each other?

At first I thought I was going to have issues with reading the book. The line editors at Harlequin really missed the mark on passive wording. Once I accepted that and read over 'had' usage, I found a beautiful story that kept me misty eyed through most of the book.

Jessa knew her old home resort was the safe haven she needed to have her baby. I think Will said it best when he (paraphrasing) that as teens we can't wait to get out of our home town but as adults we find comfort in where we grew up. Both Will and Jessa went away to separate universities, pursuing their dreams. Will came home to buy the Brooks Family Resort that had been a big part of his growing up, and owned by Jessa's family for three generations. When he bought the resort from her dad he made a promise she would always have a place at the resort. I thought that was sweet but wait until you read the book and be prepared for Awww moments. I'm not sure actually thought she would ever return. She hurt him pretty bad right after they'd parted ways and I don't think he envisioned her every coming home. yet on a stormy night in early summer, there she was at his front door.

One thing I really liked is the antagonist feature. Not a strong presence but enough to create needed tension to make even the sweetest story sing.

As I said, I was misty through most of the book and a I had to keep a tissue hand as I read the last third of the story.

I'm giving SECOND TIME AROUND

WEDNESDAY REVIEW - Mother For A Month

 Good morning, everyone!

I have to confess something. I love to read books but once I pick one up, putting the story down until I've reached the end is really hard. That means nothing else gets done. LOL  Especially, if the book is really good.

Today's Wednesday Review falls into that category. I got up from the table long enough to fix lunch then I kept reading until I'd read the final line.

This book is a follow-up to The Adoption Surprise (which I'm going to be reading soon)

BLURB:
Adorable baby Micah melts Sienna king's heart instantly. Too bad he's related to the most insufferable man Sienna knows. Joel Armstrong has temporary custody of his sweet nephew - and no clue what he's doing. Sienna has free time... and a yearning to be a mother. It could be a perfect match. But what happens when they both start wanting a long-term ever after?

So y'all know about 'fate', right? Or 'serendipity'? That moment when things just happen for a reason. Sienna and Joel have known each other for years... and kept their distance. Sienna is as prickly as they come and I think Joel delighted in taunting her at every opportunity while they were growing up. So what's the chance they'd show up in the airport at the same time? The exact moment when Joel has his hands full?

I'm like Sienna when it comes to children. Zoey pulled me immediately and I hung on to that baby till the very last moment, just as Sienna and Joel did. I knew heartbreak would come for them. That's the dark moment we all love to hate in our books but we also had the Happy Ever After we hope for.

I'm giving Mother For A Month:

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT & REVIEW - Jill Weatherholt

 Good afternoon, everyone!

I'm not sure about anyone else but I've really had a challenge finding center. This is my first full week back to work since before the holidays. Seriously? The first quarter of the year is almost history and here I am just finding my way back - which ties in beautifully to this week's Author Spotlight & Review.

Back in January I picked up three books with promise so I'd be ready to roll with the Tuesday posts. I just couldn't do it. The first one I'd intended was a New Years kind of story but the author never replied to any of my contacts, so I sat the book aside. (Incidently, that is going to be a topic for a new Author series I'll be sharing soon so stay tuned!)

First, let's meet the author:

Jill Weatherholt works for the City of Charlotte during the day. In the evenings and on weekends, she crafts heartwarming, contemporary romances about love, faith and foregiveness for Harlequin Love Inspired. She shares her life with her real-life hero and number one supporter. She believes in enjoying every moment because God has everything under control.

As I mentioned early, this book fits perfectly with where I am right now - finding my way back. That's what Luke Beckett does in this story.

The book, SEARCHING FOR HOME by Jill Weatherholt was a delightful read.  If you're familiar with my channel at all, then you know that any books that include children, animals or both rank at the top of my list. Throw in a rodeo cowboy hero and a heroine who's heart is planted in family and you have the perfect read. You'll find all of those in SEARCHING for HOME.

Meg Brennan has spent her life feeling as if Luke Beckett deserted her when he left home and joined the rodeo circuit right after high school.  You'll learn that the rodeo is a thorn in her side anyway. When her sister & brother-in-law left her in the care of  triplets, a cute country inn and a mound of debt, Meg knew how these children felt and was determined to bury her own heartache and bring love and hope to her nieces and nephew. Aside from the bills she was struggling to meet, she was doing an okay job of breathing from day to day... until Luke knocked on the door of the inn looking for a place to stay. Feelings she thought dormant increase her discomfort when he is referred to her clinic for physical therapy following a rodeo injury.

We know how this ends. Of course it's a Happy Every After story... but it's how these two get there, and the triplets shenanigans that make the journey... and the read... that much more enjoyable.

SEARCH FOR HOME released December 28, 2021. You can order PRINT or eBOOK on Amazon.
