WEEKLY PLAN - February 25th

Between trying to make sure the house was semi-presentable before Bob came home on Wednesday, trying to bring my work habits into 2013 and prepare for an ice storm, last week was pretty much a wash where writing was concerned. I did get the blogs in line.

People ask why I have so many blogs and it's been suggested I should combine everything to one website with multiple pages. And here's why I don't. I LIKE the separate homes for my different resumes. My work targets a variety of audiences and potential editors and agents. Can you imagine if I attempted to target all of those people under one headline? Too confusing in my opinion.

So if you've ever wondered what keeps me busy, let me give you some insight.
For now, I consider my novel writing to be my dessert. I try to always make room (time) for dessert (novels) but the freelance, particularly in music and entertainment, has always been what made my heart beat as far back as I can remember. Even though novels don't come first on my To-Do list, I still need to keep my contacts in the field and stay abreast of what's going on ... so I have TheWritersStudio

That's where I keep up with what is going on in Texas music. I also try to keep an ear to the Nashville beat, especially for the traditional music that built Nashville and the entertainers trying to bring it back around.

I'm a creative person. From the time I was nine, my (step) mom taught me to glue paper together I've been in love with creating something from left-overs. I'm enthralled with color in any form. I can spend six hours in a fabric store just oohing and awing over pattern combinations and colors. I love to play with paper, inks, paints, fabric, clay, fibers... the list is endless. I also have a spiritual blog I've not worked with much but am hoping to delve back in to. And finally, a blog about my home-area... http://anozarksjournal.blogspot.com  Just a place to share a little bit of the beautiful state of Missouri. Who knows, it might spark some freelance travel pieces.

Amongst all of this I enter writing competitions, mostly short stories make time to create for the creative blog as well as just because I need that 'play' time. I love to garden, play with my animals and spend time with my SUPER supportive husband Bob.

So the next time someone suggests because I work from home, I don't do as much as someone who works outside the home... come spend the day with me. I dare you to keep up! :-)

Looking good!

I spent yesterday getting caught up on the net stuff I'm responsible for. Boy was that a long day. Today I've updated my blogs (5 counting this one) and am set to start working on the WIP. Updating my Country Angel blog helped get me in the spirit. The nominations for the 10th Annual Texas Music Awards are posted so I had to research some of the nominees. Great talent in Texas. Feel privileged to be a part of that community.

Now I get to spend the rest of the evening writing about cowboys, Texas music, dance halls and good ole' boys. Man being a writer is AWESOME!

Nano Week 1

Okay,

I've not written as much as I should have by now. But considering the story actually began to gel for me yesterday (Note, that would be Day 6), I'm doing pretty good!

I know my hero - Brent McCormack is back on his parents' ranch after being disillusioned by the commercialism of Nashville. (Have I got a lesson for him!) He has given up his dream of being the next Garth Brooks but not of playing the Texas music he is passionate about.

I know my heroine - Jessie Daniels. She's been physically and emotionally abused. She's back home where she feels safe. Safe goes right out the window when Brent McCormack walks into the Blue Plate Diner where she's waiting tables. He's not the boy she remembers hanging with her older brother back in high school. But he is still the same person who got her brother killed four years previous. Seeing him flares up a smoldering pain... and something else.

I know I'll be featuring the Texas music community I've come to love.

I know Brent and Jessie will wind up Happily Ever After.

I know where I'm going so when one scene isn't working, I can jump around and still come up with a daily word count.

What I DON'T know...

is what the pivotal scene is that HAS to take place in The Lonesome Steer.

But it will come to me. Just like the rest of this has.

I'll be busy writing the rest of this week. But Friday is Veteran's Day and I have a Special Guest for Fast Five Friday. You won't want to miss getting to know this man!

Nano Begins

Well, for the first time in eight years I'm starting without an outline. It's pretty scary territory for me. I know Chris Baty's big thing is No Plot? No Problem! But I'm also willing to bet he's a pantster. I write faster when I know where I'm going. I don't need a GPS when I know the area - don't even like them. But when I'm getting into new territory, I feel safer towards others when I have someone or something telling me how to get there.

I do know a few things about this story.

I know the Heroine's name is Jessie and that she's running back home to TX from an abusive relationship. Been there. I can write this.

I don't know the Hero's name. All I know is he's in the Texas Music business. I'm known as the 'trusted on-line voice of Texas Music' so I should be able to write this.

I do know there is a not so nice woman wanting her hooks in the Hero - so there's a bit of conflict. I also know Jessie's X comes to TX to find her and teams up with nasty woman to create more problems.

I know that at least one pivotal scene must take place in a specific honkytonk (as ordained by the submission call for The Wild Rose Press).

And I know that because The Wild Rose Press wants their Honkytonk Hearts series to end in HEA, then this story has a happy ending.

Okay... maybe I have more than I thought. Guess it's time to get this story written. The Wild Rose Press is only contracting approximately fifteen stories for this series. I'd really like to work with Stacy and TWRP team. They're good people. And I love the storyline.

So here we go!
