Let's meet Pam:
Bio
An
avid reader since childhood, Pamela Labud had dreamed of being a novelist. At age 13 she begged her parents for a
typewriter for Christmas and started creating romantic stories of her own. Now, many years later she’s realized her
dream, and become a multi-published author.
In 2005, her first novel was a double finalist in the RWA’s prestigious
RITA contest. She has since published
many books in print, ebook and audio books.
In January 2017, she released her first Contemporary Paranormal book,
which is set in Kristen Painter’s Nocturne Falls Universe—Reaping the Immortal is available in ebook, print and audio. The
Immortal Takes A Wife is her second book in the Nocturne Falls Universe.
Writing
in the genre of Regency, Fantasy, Time Travel, Contemporary, Medical and
Historical Western romance (the last one under the pen name of Leigh Curtis)
These
days Pamela has a full life as a romance author and high school C.N.A. teacher,
having previously worked full time as a registered nurse for 35 years. She and her husband have raised two talented daughters
and now manage a busy house with six dogs, a mini-pig, a Guinea pig, 3 Cockatiels,
5 Lovebirds and a Conure Parrot.
In
addition to reading romance novels obsessively, Pamela enjoys visiting the
beach and local theme parks. When she’s
not doing that, she spends her down time watching crime shows on TV, old
movies, and anime.
Here's my FIVE questions for Pam:
I’m always asked ‘where do you get your
ideas’. So, where do you get yours?
That’s a
hard one, because ideas can literally come from anywhere. Usually, though, it’s all about people. People in your life for sure, but also what
you hear about others. And, moreover,
people with problems. You think, if that
were me, I’d do this…
Which comes first, the story, the
characters, or the setting?
For me, it’s
always the characters. Sometimes, it’s a
matter of what if they did this or that.
Or, how would I handle that situation…It’s all about personality and
asking ‘what if’ questions.
Which of your heroines most represent you,
or the ‘you’ you’d like to be? Why?
I think to
some extent, all of them do. But, years
ago I wrote a book, Grave Danger, a post apocalyptic love story—it was in first
person, and that heroine is my true, snarky, sappy self.
What is the single most important part of
writing for you?
Closing your
eyes and discovering your story. It
takes me places that I have no idea I’d want to visit and poses problems that
I’ve no idea how to solve. That’s the
fun of it.
What’s the most romantic thing a guy can do
(or has done) for you?
My husband
does romantic things for me every day.
Like, loading the dishwasher or helping me care for all our
animals. He’s been 100 percent behind my
writing and basically doing whatever I want career wise. He’s dependable, a hard worker, and lets me
watch Law and Order and CSI shows over and over, and never complains.
Here's Pam's THREE:
How long have you been writing -
have you always wanted to be a writer?
I have wanted to be a writer since about age 13. I lived in a small, small town and with only
3 TV channels, there wasn’t very much child’s programming, let alone a young
teen. I fell into books at an early age then, then later would make up pretend
stories about all the books and TV shows I loved. (So many Star Trek fan fics!) I’d written poetry and Sci-fi and when I was
30 years old, a friend at work gave me her copy of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander
to read, and I was forever hooked on romance.
If I was a first time reader of
your books, which one would you recommend I start with
and why?
I would recommend Spirit Away, which is my first mass market published
romance novel, a Regency set ghost story.
The hero of that book stole my heart and I love him to this day. (Hmmm, his name is William—just like my real
life hero!)
Favorite TV show
My favorite show of all time is Firefly.
I loved Sci-fi growing up as a kid and though I totally missed the first
run, when I watched it 10 years later it became my favorite of all time!
Great answers! Now, let's talk about the book:
Blurb
Heartsick
about her on again, off again boyfriend, Werewolf, Fiona O’Malley is struggling
to make the hardest decision of her life—if she should break up with him once
and for all. Though she knows he loves
her, is sweet, funny and kind, he’s just not the sort of guy you can depend
upon, especially in the romance department.
Immortal
Matthew “Matty” Hyland is crazy in love with Fiona. He’d do anything to make
her happy. Though he tries repeatedly to be there for her, things just keep
getting in his way. Broken promises and
no show’s for their dates keep happening. He knows Fiona is about at the end of
her patience and is on the verge of cutting him loose forever.
Just
as he’s about to pop the question, things go from seriously bad to crazy worse.
Captured by a bounty hunter, the couple is pursued by an evil gangster bondsman
and mysterious Druids. Fiona is giving
her all to help him, all the while not knowing if their love can survive in all
the turmoil they’re facing in addition to the issues they’ve had in the
past. Matty is desperate to make it up
to her and prove he can change so they can be together forever. One thing is certain, magic, adventure and
true love ensues when The Immortal Takes A Wife!
Excerpt
Leaning
back on the sofa, Matty closed his eyes.
He remembered his first days here, how he’d gotten into trouble with the
local police, and had ducked into a small boutique and right into the most
beautiful woman he’d ever seen.
“Excuse
you,” she said, her voice a low, sexy brogue.
“You need to watch yourself.”
He
was so enthralled by her presence that he almost missed the fact that already,
her wolfish veil had begun to fall.
Thick, crimson hair, eyes the color of brimstone and a face that was
both inviting and dangerous.
“I
apologize.”
“You
should,” she snapped. “Clumsy oaf.”
She
started to turn away, but he slid around to stand in front of her. “How about I make it up to you? A cup of coffee, perhaps? Or, something a little stronger. You know, coffee, tea or… me?”
He
wriggled his eyebrows at her and caught just the hint of a grin tugging at her
beautiful mouth.
“Really? First, you almost knock me down and then you
hit on me?”
“I’m
not a man who likes to take the long road.”
“Obviously.”
She shook her head. “You’re cute and all, but I’ve just come off
of a bad relationship, and I’m not looking to hook up.”
“Right. Coffee it is, then.”
She
gaped at him. “You’re really too much.”
“Aren’t
I? So, come on. What do you say? You and I, a latte, caramel,
whatever you prefer?”
